Amazon QuickSight – Sqrt
The sqrt function in Amazon QuickSight returns the square root of a numeric expression.
Syntax
#Start# sqrt(expression) #End#
This function takes one argument:
- expression (required): the numeric expression to find the square root of.
Suppose you have a dataset containing a field with numeric values that you want to find the square root of.
Assume the following dataset:
| Item | Value |
| Apple | 16 |
| Banana | 25 |
| Orange | 36 |
| Pear | 49 |
| Peach | 64 |
| Mango | 81 |
| Kiwi | 100 |
To find the square root of the Value field, you can use the sqrt function:
- Select the dataset that you want to create a calculated field for.
- Click on the “Add field” button.
- Enter the following expression:
Example
#Start# sqrt({Value}) #End#
This expression finds the square root of the Value field.
- Click “Create field” to create the calculated field.
After creating this calculated field, you can use it for visualizations and analysis. In this example, the calculated field would have the following values:
| Item | Value | Sqrt(Value) |
| Apple | 16 | 4 |
| Banana | 25 | 5 |
| Orange | 36 | 6 |
| Pear | 49 | 7 |
| Peach | 64 | 8 |
| Mango | 81 | 9 |
