Amazon QuickSight – Terminology

 

Data Set:

A structured collection of data used to create visualizations and insights in QuickSight. Data sets can be created from various sources, including Amazon S3, Amazon RDS, Amazon Redshift, and more.

Data Sources:

These are the origins of data that can be connected to QuickSight for creating data sets. QuickSight supports a wide range of data sources like Amazon S3, Amazon RDS, Amazon Redshift, etc.

Dashboard:

A compilation of visualizations and insights used for monitoring and analyzing data. Dashboards are created using data sets and data sources in QuickSight and can be shared with others.

Visualization:

A visual representation of data, such as bar charts, line charts, or pie charts, created in QuickSight using data sets and data sources. Visualizations can be added to dashboards.

Insights:

Automated data analysis that helps discover trends, patterns, and relationships in data. Insights are generated in QuickSight using data sets and data sources and can be incorporated into dashboards.

Data Analysis:

The primary workspace for creating data visualizations, which are graphic representations of data. Each analysis contains a set of visualizations that can be arranged and customized.

Sheet:

A page displaying a collection of visualizations and insights. Sheets can be thought of as pages in a newspaper, filled with charts, graphs, tables, and insights. Additional sheets can be added, functioning independently or in conjunction with others in the analysis.

 

SPICE (Super-fast, Parallel, In-memory Calculation Engine):

The powerful in-memory engine utilized by QuickSight. SPICE is designed to quickly perform advanced calculations and serve data. Its storage and processing capabilities accelerate analytical queries run against imported data. By leveraging SPICE, users save time as data retrieval is not needed every time an analysis is altered or a visual is updated.
