Artificial Intelligence in demand but 2,500 jobs remained vacant in 2019

AI continued to be in great demand throughout 2019, the number of AI professionals in India has doubled, tech-based skillsets such as softer skillsets such as emotional intelligence, critical thinking and leadership skills. 

According to a study by Great Learning, India’s leading ed-tech Company, 2,500 related positions remain vacant indicating that the number of jobs getting created in AI has outpaced the talent available in the sector.

 AI professionals in India are 7.2 years while 29% of AI professionals have more than 10 years of work experience. By 2020, we expect to see a large number of experienced professionals transitioning to careers in AI.

The number of fresher’s joining the field has also grown 60% from 3,700 last year to 6,000 by the end of 2019.  Increasing use of Chabot’s & NLP (natural language processing) voice assistants, and bigger AI budgetary allocations from the government are the major factors contributing to this growth.

 According to a recent PwC survey, 65% of the participants agreed that AI is likely to have a severe impact on employment in India and 55% of the participants also believed that the benefits of AI will outweigh the potential downsides of employment concerns.
