Atomic Structure

Democritus was the first to discover atom. Atom is a Greek word and its meaning indivisible i.e. an ultimate particle which cannot be further subdivided.

According to Dalton, atom is indivisible means an atom cannot be further divided. However, it fails to explain the results of various experiments for example when ebonite rod is rubbed with silk or fur it generates electricity.

These studies proved that atom consists of still smaller particles such as electron proton & neutron. These are considered as fundamental particles of an atom. This study create a platform to understand the structure of an atom.
