Differences between LAN and VLAN

What is LAN?

LAN stands for Local Area Network and refers to a collection of network devices that employ the communications between the connected devices.

What is VLAN?

Virtual LANs also known as VLAN, is a concept in which we can divide the devices logically into 2 data link layers.

One of the major differences between LAN or Local Area Network and VLAN or Virtual Local Area Network is that LAN works on a single broadcast domain while VLAN works on multiple broadcast domains. Also, in LAN, the packet is advertised to each device while in VLAN the packet is sent to a specific broadcast domain.

Differences:

LANVLAN
LAN stands for Local Area Network.VLAN stands for Virtual Area Network.
The latency is high. The latency is low.
Less efficient than VLAN.More efficient than LAN.
The packet is advertised to each device. In VLAN it is sent to a specific broadcast domain.
The cost is high. The cost is less.
Some devices in which LANs are used are routers, hubs, etc. Some devices in which VLANs are used are Bridges and switches.
