Electronic mail or email allows the user to send a message in a formatted manner to another internet user. The messages can contain text and multimedia.
What are the components of an E-mail System?
The components of the email system are :
- User-agent (UA)
- Message Transfer Agent (MTA)
- Mailbox
- Spool file
User-agent
The user-agent or the UA accepts commands to receive, compose, and reply to messages alongside manipulating the mailboxes.
Message Transfer Agent
Message Transfer Agent or the MTA is responsible for the transfer of mails from one system to another.
Mailbox
Mailbox collects the mails. It is a local hard disk from where the user can read or delete the mails according to his needs.
Spool file
The spool file collects the emails that are sent.
