Forest department to use artificial intelligence in lion Census
We have seen that Artificial Intelligence is been used in hospitals, Banking sectors, Information Technology etc. Now that it’s being used by forest department to eradicate and avoid duplication of entries of the same Lion. Hence Artificial Intelligence is used in Lion census.
Through this we can identify individual animals can compare, read and analyse each lion; breeding center for Great Indian Bustard mooted; 18 captive leopards to be released with radio collars.
By 2020 Artificial Intelligence is used in Lion Census in the state for the first time.The decision was taken during the State Wildlife Board meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Thursday in Gandhinagar.
WII has developed a software to eliminate any duplicate eliminate any duplicate entries based on identification marks on the body, or by face recognition, said by senior forest department. The software can identify individual lions based on vibrissae patterns and other permanent body marks enabling the creation of a long-term database of individual lion sightings.
In the past the officers used to to give sheets to field persons who recorded identification marks on individual sketches of lions and also took photographs, but that leads to duplication and multiple of entries of the same Lion. This can be eliminated by this software and the census count can be reached quicker and with greater certainty.
