Google Enhances Gemini with New Features and Expanded Capabilities
Google has rolled out significant updates to its AI-powered digital assistant, Gemini, introducing new features like the “Ask Gemini” prompt and expanded Workspace integrations. These additions are aimed at making task management more seamless and driving more users towards adopting Gemini over Google Assistant.
Key Updates:
- Gemini Workspace Extensions
Initially introduced at the I/O event in May with the Pixel 9 series, Gemini extensions are now being expanded in an open beta. These extensions allow users to manage tasks, create calendar events, and take notes directly through the Gemini chatbot. While these features were initially limited to flagship devices, they are now available to a broader audience through Google Workspace.Users with Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, and Education Premium add-ons can access these extensions for Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Docs, enhancing their productivity within the app. - “Ask Gemini” Prompt
Google has replaced the text field prompt in Gemini from “Type, talk, or share a photo to Gemini (Advanced)” to simply “Ask Gemini” or “Ask Gemini Advanced,” depending on the version. This change has been applied to both Android and the web (gemini.google.com), aligning with the app’s homescreen redesign that began rolling out in early October. - New Lock Screen Features
A significant update in the latest Gemini beta enables users to manage calls and messages even when the phone is locked. The “Make calls and send messages without unlocking” toggle can be manually enabled in the app settings under “Gemini on lock screen.” Despite this feature, Google ensures user privacy by prompting device unlocking when personal content is involved.
These updates further establish Gemini as a comprehensive digital assistant, with enhanced integration for both personal and professional use.
