IBM wants to make computers fluent in human communication

People can convey things by their communication, they can be able to make people understand, what they exactly want to communicate. Communication is the important tool where people know about each other and express their intentions. Likewise IBM wants to make computers fluent in human communication.

New York: IBM is introducing a new technology that makes easier for computers to understand human communication. AI systems have been improving in business to process and learn from large quantities of data.

The company adds new tools to its AI system, Watson, which can address that problem and better understand human language and “natural language processing” technology was developed for IBM Research’s Project Debater, so this AI machine became the first to compete against a world class human debater last year.

In order to hold the debate, the debater needs to have the ability to listen to its opponent, understand his or her argument and formulate a response rapidly, all without internet access

According to the research firm Gartner, 48% of global chief investment officers will be looking to deploy AI systems in their companies this year and as per IBM survey of 4,500, 45% of companies with more than 1,000 employees have adopted AI.

Now that they are working on major improvement over existing AI systems is the system’s ability to do “sentiment analysis” — to look at what someone what they are really trying to communicate by saying, written and understand what the context is.

Rob Thomas, general manager of IBM Data and AI says IBM has a tool called Watson OpenScale that, among other capabilities, can do bias detection and mitigation of companies’ AI tools.

Thomas said, the tools could make people more effective at their jobs, he also added that Maybe the problem is too hard for the AI to solve, but if you combine this tech with a human worker, their ability and speed to find the solution goes up rapidly.
