Microsoft AI Cheif Harry Shum to leave firm in 2020
HarryShum, veteran and vice president of Microsoft is in charge of Artificial intelligence and research group. Is leaving the firm in early 2020, Kevin Scott the company has announced.
Harry shum, chief technology officer was driving research and development efforts spanning infrastructure, services, apps and agents and overall AI strategy of the company. He used to lead Microsoft Research and its integration with the engineering teams across the company.
Harry Shum served as the corporate vice president responsible for Bing search product development from 2007 to 2013. He was named executive vice president and CTO in 2017. Shum reports directly to Nadella and is part of the company’s senior leadership team.
Shum’s contributions in the fields of computer science and AI leave a legacy and a strong foundation for future innovation.
Nadella told Microsoft employees in a note,” I want to thank him for his leadership and partnership, and for all he has done for Microsoft”.
Even though Kevin Scott has already replaced Shum, Shum’s last day will be February 1, 2020. He will be continuing as an advisor to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Bill Gates.
