OpenAI Japan CEO Reveals GPT-Next: An AI Model 100 Times More Powerful Than GPT-4
At the recent KDDI Summit 2024, Tadao Nagasaki, CEO of OpenAI Japan, unveiled exciting details about the future of artificial intelligence. Nagasaki disclosed that OpenAI’s upcoming model, GPT-Next, is set to be a monumental leap forward, boasting a power increase of 100 times over the current GPT-4. This advancement is expected to be achieved not through a surge in computational resources but through enhancements in the model’s architecture.
During his keynote, Nagasaki reaffirmed OpenAI’s dedication to advancing AI and highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to communication and innovation in the field. He shared insights into GPT-Next, which will be a pivotal part of OpenAI’s future projects. The new model will incorporate elements from OpenAI’s enigmatic Project Strawberry, slated for release this fall.
Nagasaki also noted that as of the end of August, ChatGPT has surpassed 200 million active users, making it the fastest-growing software to hit this milestone. He emphasized that no other software has offered such an accessible entry point into AI. Furthermore, the adoption of ChatGPT Enterprise by a growing number of companies reflects its increasing importance in the business world.
Currently, OpenAI employs around 2,000 people globally, with about half dedicated to AI development. OpenAI’s international presence includes offices in the US, the UK, and now Japan. Nagasaki explained that Japan was selected as the first base in Asia due to its strong tradition of embracing innovation and new technologies.
Reflecting on his journey, Nagasaki shared his previous role as CEO of Amazon Web Services Japan from 2011 to 2024 before joining OpenAI. He expressed enthusiasm for GPT-Next, describing it as a significant step forward in the evolution of AI technology.
As we look ahead, GPT-Next promises to be a game-changer in the AI landscape, setting new benchmarks for what artificial intelligence can achieve.
