Power BI – Connect to Amazon RedShift
Connect to an Amazon Redshift database in Power BI Desktop
Power BI Desktop allows you to connect to an Amazon Redshift database and use its underlying data just like any other data source.
Connect to an Amazon Redshift database
Power BI Desktop connects to Amazon Redshift databases via the Get data ribbon. From the left-hand menu, select Database. Amazon Redshift appears.

In the Amazon Redshift window that appears, type or paste the name of your Amazon Redshift server and database. The Server field allows users to specify a port in the following format: ServerURL:Port. This image shows some optional advanced options for your connection.
When prompted, put in your username and password. To avoid errors, you should use a server name that exactly matches the SSL certificate.
You can import and use one or more elements in Power BI Desktop once you have successfully connected to the server using the Navigator window.
Once you make selections from the Navigator window, you can either Load or transform the data.
- If you choose to Load data, you’ll be prompted to use either Import or DirectQuery mode to load the data.
- The Power Query Editor appears when you select Transform Data, where you can apply all kinds of transformations and filters, many of which are applied to the Amazon Redshift database itself (if supported).
