Power BI – PBIDS Files to Get Data

In Power BI Desktop, you can use a .pbix file to get data and create reports. A .pbix file is a Power BI Desktop file that contains all the data and the report structure, including visuals, calculated columns, and measures, among other elements.

To get data from a .pbix file in Power BI Desktop, you simply need to open the file in Power BI Desktop. Here’s how

  • Open Power BI Desktop.
  • Go to “File” > “Open” in the ribbon.
  • Select the .pbix file you want to open.
  • Power BI Desktop will open the file and load the data into the report.
  • You can then use the data to create your report, add visuals, and perform other data analysis tasks.

Note that .pbix files can only be opened in Power BI Desktop, not in the Power BI Service. To share a .pbix file with others, you need to publish the report to the Power BI Service and then share it with the desired users.

Currently, PBIDS files only support a single data source in one file. Specifying more than one data source results in an error.
