Pune airport gets trial AI baggage scanning system

Pune International Airport has installed and initiated trials for the artificial intelligence (AI) baggage scanner system. They aimed to improve security at airports as per tht AI based solutions.

Ajay Kumar, director of the Airport Authority of India, Pune said that, Firstly the AI software technology can automatically detect various objects and threats from the X-ray images during the screening process of baggage and alert the operators, this is done in order to detect system through security X-ray machines.

He further said that Artificial Intelligence system will add another layer of security to the existing human screeners in realtime done by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials at present.

Himanshu Arora, co-founder of Dimensionless Technologies said that, the software developed learns the characteristics of objects in cabin baggage, such as lighters, e-cigarettes, knives and others prohibited items that are scanned via X-ray, adding to the security layer.

He further insisted that the difference of the software, a more detailed scanner, with the normal scanning machine is quite evident. There could be times when fatigue or human error could allow oversight

Arora concluded stating, the scanning is under trial at Pune Airport, and, if successful, could be expanded to other airports.
