What is Google Penguin?

Google “Penguin” is an algorithm created to fight low-quality sites and with web spam. The date of his “birth” is April 24, 2012. In order not to fall under the action of the algorithm, Google gives a number of recommendations that must be considered when promoting a site in this search engine. Here are some of them:

1. The site should not be automatically generated content;

2. The site should not have pages with non-original or duplicate content;

3. The site should not provide unequal content or different URLs to users and search engines;

4. Redirection to another URL should not be used to deceive the search engine;

5. It is forbidden to use hidden text and hidden links in order to influence the site ranking in Google search results;

6. The use of doorways is prohibited ;

7. On sites participating in affiliate programs, their own content should prevail on the content provided by the affiliate site;

8. keywords on the page must fully comply with its content;

9. It is forbidden to create malicious pages for phishing and installing viruses, Trojans or other malicious software;

10. Incorrect use of markup for extended descriptions of web pages is prohibited;

11. Do not send automatic requests to Google.

If your site has revealed something from this list and it fell under the Penguin sanctions, then you can get out of them only with the next update of the algorithm and only if the site has fixed errors that led to penalization. With each new version of “Penguin” the frequency of updates increases, which means that the rate of exit from the sanctions also increases.

How does Google “Penguin” affect?

The algorithm affects the ranking of the site. Some say that this is not a decrease in search results, but only sending the site to the position that it should actually occupy. But this is not quite the correct statement, since the decrease in positions in issuance is related to the presence and estimation of the weight of negative factors of the site, and, as we already wrote above, for each site the degree of influence of negative factors is individual, and this is penalization.

Algorithm and manual moderation

We remind you that “Penguin” is an automated algorithm, and it will always work as an automated algorithm. But there is also such a thing as “manual moderation” of the site, which can also lead to the pessimization of positions in search results. At the same time, both algorithmic and manual moderation can be conducted on your site simultaneously. It is worth noting that the exit from the sanctions of the Penguin algorithm occurs automatically, but to get out of the sanctions imposed in the manual moderation mode, you need to contact Google technical support and report on what steps were taken to correct errors on the site .
