URL Optimization (i2tutorials)

1) Choice of domain name

If it was two years ago, I would tell you that it is best to put keywords in the domain name. However, it is now recommended that you put the best keywords in your domain name, but don’t make the domain name very long in order to put keywords, don’t register domain names with hyphens in order to put keywords.

Take a step back. In order to make the domain name clear, you can put a hyphen, put up to two, but don’t stack keywords. If the domain name with keywords is not easy to find, you can choose a short, uncommon word that is easy to brand , or a new word.

2) Descriptive

The entire URL includes the domain name, directory name and file name, and where possible, descriptive words, especially directory names and file names. Let the user see the URL and get an idea of what the page is.

3) Keywords in the URL

When possible, the directory name file name can be put on some keywords.Researchers has hinted in one of the  posts that the keywords in the URL are useful for search engine algorithms.

4) URL cannot be too long

Although you can consider putting keywords in the URL, it is best not to put the directory name file name long in order to put the keyword.

5) Use a hyphen

It is best to use a conjunction in the name of the file name in the URL – do not use underscore _, and do not use other allowed but very strange characters. The hyphens are treated as spaces. both.

6) English words

For English websites, of course, the descriptive keywords in the URL are better written. In addition, some people put other characters in the name of the directory name, or sometimes there are spaces. When such a URL appears in the address bar of the browser, it will become some coded characters. Although the search engine can recognize it, it looks ugly and not recommended.

7) URL static

This is almost a must. Don’t be true , don’t argue that there are a lot of URLs with one or two question marks. Being able to do better is also very simple, so don’t go along with the bad ones.

8) Second-level domain name and directory

Second-level domain names seem to be very popular on websites, and now there are a lot of spam in Google’s second-level domain names. Google has no good way to do this.

However, I personally recommend using the directory , unless you have special needs, it is best not to use the second-level domain name.

9) capitalization

It is best to use lowercase letters in the URL, such as Unix/Linux server uppercase and lowercase letters, which means that Index.html and index.html are treated as two different files. If the home page under a directory is Index.html, an error will occur when accessing the directory. In other cases, mixed case is often confusing.
