Tableau – Pareto Chart
What is Pareto Chart in Tableau?
The Tableau Pareto Chart, named after Vilfredo Pareto, illustrates the fact that in a given scenario, 80% of the yield is produced by 20% of the information. Even though this ratio is not usually present, it can be shockingly accurate from time to time.
The following example demonstrates how to create a Pareto chart in Tableau 8.1 using the example data source provided by the product (Sample superstore Sales.xls). It is first necessary to choose a measurement and a measure in order to construct a Pareto outline. The name of the customer and the profit total are used in this case.
Creating Bar Chat in Decreasing Order?
The first step in creating a Tableau Pareto Chart is to create a bar chart.
- Create a bar graph showing sub-category sales in descending order.
- Connect to the Sample – Superstore knowledge supply.
- Drag Sub-Category to Columns from the size space of the information pane.
iii. Drag Sales to Rows from the Measures space of the information pane.
- Click Sub-Category on Columns and select kind.
Do the following in the kind panel:
- Make sure that downward-sloping is selected under the kind order.
- Choose Field under kind by.
iii. All alternative values should be left as they are, as well as Sales because it is the chosen field and add because it is the chosen aggregation.
- To exit the type panel, click alright.
The products are currently sorted by highest sales to lowest sales.
Add a Line Chart
i. Using the Measures space of the information pane, drag Sales to the very far right of the read, until you see a line:

ii.To make a dual-axis read, drop Sales. Due to the fact that they’re organized similarly, it’s hard to imagine that there are two instances of the Sales bars.
iii. On the Marks card, select SUM(Sales) (2) and alter the mark kind to Line.
At this point, the look of the graph should appear as follows:

Add a Table Calculation
A table calculation should be added to the road chart to show sales by Sub-Category as a running total and as a percentage of total sales
- Choose Add Table Calculation for the second copy of SUM(Sales) on Rows.
- SUM(Sales) can be used as a running total for gift sales by adding a primary table calculation.
iii. As a result of the Calculation kind, choose Running Total.
- The Table Calculation panel should not be closed.
v. A secondary table calculation can be added to distribute the information as a percentage of the overall.
- In Secondary Calculation, click Add Secondary Calculation and select p.c of Total, because of the secondary calculation kind.
vii. At this point, the Table Calculation panel should look like this:

viii. The Table Calculations panel can be closed by clicking the X in the upper-right corner.
- To change the road’s color, click the Marks card.
We currently have a sociologist chart as a result:

So, that’s how Tableau Pareto Charts work.
