Uttar Pradesh Government to Invest Rs 33.5K Crore in IT and ITeS Hubs
h government has unveiled an ambitious plan to significantly enhance its IT and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) sectors. With a proposed investment of $4 billion (approximately Rs 33,500 crore), the state aims to achieve a tenfold growth in these sectors over the next five years.
The development strategy focuses on establishing technology hubs in five key cities: Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, and Prayagraj (Allahabad). Each city will specialize in different technological domains.
- Noida will be developed as a major IT and ITeS hub.
- Lucknow is set to focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).
- Kanpur will become a center for drones and robotics.
- Varanasi and Prayagraj will be designated as key locations for Engineering Research and Development (ER&D).
In addition, the Yogi Adityanath administration is crafting a strategy to attract global investors, including those from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), to engage with the state’s burgeoning AI and drone sectors.
Furthermore, the government is considering granting industry status to IT companies, which would enable them to benefit from industrial electricity tariffs. According to a concept paper from the government, Noida is already recognized as a global IT and ITeS hub due to its robust IT ecosystem and the presence of major technology firms.
